Study for knowledge, not for grades |

What is the reasoning behind the success of human beings? Clearly, the answer should be knowledge. If humans didn’t start gathering knowledge, we would not be seeing any developments that are visible for us in current environment. Without knowledge, humans would not have achieved the technological and other developments in the sectors like medicine and health. Due to these reasons, knowledge can be identified as a weapon that gives us the ability to advance our lives to a better state.
So, how did humans gather all this knowledge? Clearly, it was through extensive amount of studies.
Therefore, to facilitate these studies, almost all the countries spend a significant amount of money on school and university education. However, studying just to get through the schools or university exams, or in other words, studying to obtain higher grades should not be the focus of any person/student who wants to develop something useful for the society.
What is the main reason for this?
You may think that you would become successful as long as you get higher results/grades in the exam. However, the truth is, this is a very short term approach. Of course, this will get your name ranked highest on the results sheet and get you better jobs, but the knowledge that you have gathered will soon be forgotten and as a result, there wouldn’t not be any new developments.
However, a person who did his/her studies to get the knowledge and who did not really care about the results, would never forget about the knowledge that he/she has gained through the studies. Instead, they will do research with that knowledge and try to develop something that is useful for humans. These are the people who have a passion for what they study.
Take engineering students for example. Some of them may focus on higher results/grades. Once they have achieved them, their main objective would be to find a job. In this case, they will work for a company where they are allocated a specific task and chances are they will concentrate only on that. Of course, they will become experts in that specific area, but chances of new technological breakthroughs is questionable.
However, there will be some students who will do research on their own. They will use the knowledge that they have gained from the university studies to develop something new or to improve something. For these passionate individuals, failure isn’t an option. They will work as hard as they can to get the results that they want.
And clearly it is because of these sort of people that world has developed to its current state. And if it weren’t for people like that, I would be writing this article on a piece of paper, instead of writing it on a computer. And it is because of those people that you are reading this article at home on your computer screen.
Therefore, always concentrate on gaining the knowledge about a specific area as much as possible. Don’t completely be focused on the grades that you get in exams. Always try to use the knowledge that you possess to develop something that is useful for the community |
