Encouraging your pre sschooler to interact with others

A child of PreSchool age is ego-centric, i.e. he looks at everything through his own point of view. When a child enters the PreSchool he learns how to interact with others. This is called socialization. Socialization starts mainly from PreSchool and develops year by year, through his experiences, interactions and growth. Thus the adults, especially the PreSchool teachers must help the child to develop his abilities to build up confidence about others, while building their own self esteem.

Questioning others by the Preschooler is the fundamental stage of socialization. The adults around him should encourage the child by answering his questions and helping him to build up his confidence about himself as well as others. Then he will feel important and accept others too, and consider them as important. If he does not get a positive reaction for his actions of communication with others, he will most often become a shy and pessimistic adult in later life.

At the very beginning, children are willing to play and work alone at the PreSchool. They learn to share and appreciate others very soon, through the guidance of the PreSchool teachers. Development of speech skills encourages children for better socialization. PreSchool is the best place for children to learn qualities such as sharing, respect others ideas, waiting for their turn and social etiquette skills. If any of these qualities are lacking in an individual, he/she would not be successful in socializing in later life.

The PreSchool play ground is the most important place for encouraging interaction with others. It is very important that the Preschoolers be allowed to play under the supervision of a trained adult. Then the child learns to control his emotions at failure and success, be helpful to others, be empathetic towards others failures and learn many activities to drive himself towards set goals. These experiences are very valuable for interacting in society in later life. Thus the PreSchool is the basis for laying the foundation for such good and important qualities necessary in their future life.

It is very important for the teachers to encourage the children to interact successfully with each-other. The teachers’ attitude is a very important aspect here. If the teacher is a pessimist, the students will learn to criticize others and reject society. This would be a harmful influence for socialization in Preschoolers. The teacher should be a cheerful person and appreciate even a minute goodness of her students. She should not criticize one child in front of other children. That particular child will be unhappy and will become an introvert, without appreciating interaction with others.

The parents are not spared for this task. It is very important the parent must not criticize the teacher in front of the child. The PreSchool teacher is the very first teacher in a child’s life. If the child builds up negative feelings towards the teachers, this attitude may remain throughout his life.

Finally the teachers as well as the parents should contribute thoughtfully for developing the child’s socialization from their tender ages. A Preschooler will interact with others faster than an isolated non-preschooler. The main reason for this could be stated as working, sharing and spending time with children of the same age.
