| Last year, in the month of June, there was a big fire, in my neighborhood shops. The fire brigade took eight hours to extinguish it. The shops gutted were mainly of Jute and were mainly of Plastic dealers premises. There were three godowns of plastic toys and two sales depots of jute and gunny bags. One fireman did the marvelous job there. He was later granted two special increments by the Fire Station Officers for his brave deed. The fire was first reported at about 2 a.m. And the fire engines reached the spot at about 3.15 a.m. Only to notice that every thing was reduced to ashes. Luckily, there was no casualty. The staff of these shops were caught unawares. Two of them fainted due to shocks. It was here that the fireman made them sit, just for two hours, under his care. He was at the first floor, looking after the people in distress. He rendered first-aid to some of the victims of the fire. He telephoned to the local hospital and called on compounders to look after these men. When he came to know that one old man was caught in one godown. He immediately climbed one of the roofs and brought the old man out, with the help of two other workers of the shop. He was praised by the Major for his brave deed, and his department granted him two special increments for that. |
