Michael Faraday - The inventor of Electromagnetic Induction

Michael FaradayMichael Faraday was born in 1791 at Newington, England. He was the son of a blacksmith. Michael worked as an apprentice in book- binding, during his early years.

Faraday took an interest in Science after 1812 when he listened to lectures of Sir Humphry Davy. After having close relationship with Sir Humphry, Faraday began to work as Davy's assistant at the Royal Institution, which at the time was facing heavy financial problems. So, Faraday had to work hard since he was the main income earner for the Institution.

During that period Faraday worked in the field of glass and steel, He discovered benzene in 1825. influenced by Davy, Faraday performed many chemical experiments and investigated the chlorides of carbon for Davy too. Faraday's other great discovery in 1823 was that gases could be liquefied by pressure. But this credit went to Davy.

Faraday's greatest discovery was that magnetic field can generate electricity. He demonstrated that magnet can generate electricity. All modern dynamos, generates and transformers are based on the work of Faraday and Humphry. Faraday developed the laws of electrolysis in 1834 and which are taught to physics students even today.

On the 25th of August 1867 Faraday breathed his last breath and was given a private funeral at High gate Cemetery.
