Great Claus and Little Claus

Once upon a time there lived in a village two men who had the same name, Claus. One of them owned four horses, while the other had only one. So the owner of the four horses was called Great Claus, and the other was known as Little Claus.

All the week Little Claus had to plough for Great Claus, and lend him his one horse. In return, on Sunday, Great Claus would lend Little Claus his four horses. A proud man then was Little Claus. The people looked at him as he brandished his whip over the five horses. He was so pleased that he kept cracking his whip and crying out again and again “Hip, hip, hurrah! Five fine horses and all of them mine!”

“You must not say that,” said Great Claus. “Only one of the horses is yours. You know that well enough.”
